Scholastic Book Fair and World Book Day

Scholastic Book Fair and World Book Day

Dear Parents,

Scholastic Book Fair

We are delighted to be running a Scholastic Book Fair in school on Monday 3rd March, Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 5th March in order to further promote a love of books and reading in the lead up to ‘World Book Day’, which is on Thursday 6th March.

The Book Fair will take place after school from 3.20pm until 4pm in the Maths classroom (previously the Library).  There will be a wide range of books to purchase on these days or, if we run out of any stock, you may order the books online.  The Scholastic Book Fair includes the latest titles from children’s literature, as well as much loved classics from over sixty different publishers.  Book prices start from £2.99 and every child will be receiving a £1 World Book Day token which they can knock off the price of any book.

Please note that we will not be taking cash at the Book Fair. Instead, parents and carers can pay for books using the card reader.

If you are unable to visit the Book Fair, please do not worry.  The children will have had the opportunity to look at the books with their class and will be given a ‘wish list’ to note down any books they are interested in.  These books may then be purchased from the Scholastic website at home.

World Book Day - Thursday 6th March

As usual, we will be celebrating World Book Day in school.  Our school has opted to have a dress up day where children may choose to either come dressed as a favourite book character or author, or come dressed in their pyjamas ready to ‘snuggle up with a book’. We are also asking your children to bring in a favourite book to share with their classmates. The famous actor-turned-author, Ricky Tomlinson, will be joining us.

Throughout the day, the children will be taking part in some lovely book-themed activities which will help to broaden their reading interests.

Competition Time

Scholastic have kindly donated four £5.00 book vouchers to be spent at the Book Fair, so we are holding a competition. Each child will be given a copy of a blank front cover and, if they wish to take part, they should design an alternative front cover for a book they love.

Entries should be brought into school with your child’s name and class on the back by Monday 24th February to allow us time to decide upon the winners before the Book Fair.  There will be a £5 prize for an EYFS entry, a KS1 entry, a Year 3&4 entry and a Year 5&6 entry.  There will also be a prize for the overall winner.

We are looking forward to both the Book Fair and World Book Day and hope that you will support us with both.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about either event.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. R. Lowe.
